Peritoneal Dialysis differs from Hemodialysis in that instead of the blood being purified OUTSIDE the body with an artificial kidney, the blood is purified INSIDE the body using the PERITONEUM (the membrane that lines the abdominal cavity) as a natural filter.
Our objective to initiate this services in the local community are:
- To encourage and promote the use of Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) amongst End Stage Renal Failure (ESRF) patients in a home setting in order to save them their time, inconveniences and resolve their financial burden.
- To expedite the process of recruiting patient for CAPD by subsidising the surgical and catheter costs for Tenchkoff catheter insertion for poor and eligible patients.
- To complement the nursing service of Nephrology Centres in our mission to cut down the incidences of infective peritonitis.
